Sedaris to lecture at Ulster Performing Arts Center

In 1993 he came out of America’s literary woodwork as a non-fiction humor writer and essayist, as and for more than a decade has charmed many readers and audiences with his witty sense of humor and knack for satire. Since then, David Sedaris has become the author of four autobiographical novels including Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim and When You Are Engulfed in Flames, all of which have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List. sedaris

Sedaris’ career took off in 1992 when he first spoke on National Public Radio (NPR) reading his personal essay ‘SantaLand Diaries,’ in which described his experience working as an elf at Macy’s department store during Christmas time in New York. He has also has had his essays published in various publications from Esquire Magazine to the New Yorker, and held various other offbeat jobs during his life.

His second book to become a bestseller, Me Talk Pretty One Day, published in 2000 won him the Thurber Prize for American Humor in 2001, an award that recognizes exceptional pieces in humor writing, and lead him to be named “Humorist of the Year” by TIME magazine.

Next semester on Friday, April 9th, Sedaris will be lecturing at the Ulster Performing Arts Center (UPAC) in Kingston, NY, roughly a ten minute drive from the Marist campus.
